My Very Best Writing of 2018

Another whirlwind year.

The majority of my 2018 was consumed with my second child, from planning to conception to pregnancy all the way to, finally, birth. Every child changes the lives of those around them and this change happens long before the child even arrives. This was especially true for us.

Yet, that wasn’t the only thing that was happening.

My older daughter turned six and continued the evolution towards independent child, particularly with the things she says. She has great comedic timing and some of the things that come out of her mouth are simply hilarious.

My job went through some organizational changes (“management was restructuring,” as Will Hunting would say) and I took on a new and different role – with a new and different office!

And though my output was lower, I continued to read and write, curating my monthly newsletter, and penning items about things are diverse as ranking the best Batman films to how embarrassed I am by my high school. Most notably, I wrote two longform pieces that are wildly different in subject matter, but which I truly believe they are two of the strongest and best things I’ve ever written: An impassioned defense of the brilliance behind Zack Snyder’s DC films and an honest retelling of our entire IVF journey from beginning to end. I’m extremely proud of both of these.

Elsewhere, despite being too old for most current hip-hop, I made my podcast debut by talking about my favorite musical album and also began writing for an Australian hip-hop website, which has been an interesting challenge.

So thank you for joining me for another great year. Hopefully I wrote something that made you think or made you laugh or made you cry or even made you mad. Hopefully you recognized that I do this because I love it and I love all of you for reading my stuff.
