Rap Alfred Hitchcock

“Only Christopher we acknowledge is Wallace”

Magna Carta Holy Grail is far from peak Jay-Z, but the man’s words still hold weight as evidenced by a Twitter trending topic that popped up on Monday, Columbus Day. In response to the celebration of holiday named for a man that claimed to “discover” a land that was inhabited by millions of people – and had already been “discovered” by vikings – before then slaughtering those people (after calling them the wrong name), multiple people online began quoting Jay’s line from “Oceans.”

I could’ve picked any photo of The Notorious One, but I chose this one because I find it to be brilliant. In addition to illustrating his own boast that he was the “rap Alfred Hitchcock,” it’s just a beautiful homage. It’s been 18 years since B.I.G.’s death and he still looms large over the hip-hop landscape.

Christopher Pierznik is the author of eight books, all of which can be purchased in paperback and Kindle. His work has appeared on XXL, Cuepoint, Business Insider, The Cauldron, and many more. He has been quoted on Buzzfeed and Deadspin. Subscribe to his monthly reading review newsletter or follow him on Facebook or Twitter.
