Week in Review (July 8, 2016)

I came back from vacation six days ago and I’m still recovering.

The biggest problem with getting older isn’t the decline in energy and enthusiasm, it’s the increase in recovery time. Maybe it’s because you can’t spend all day on Saturday or Sunday just lying on the couch, drinking Gatorade, eating greasy food, and dozing through the football games, but once you hit your 30’s, going out or staying up late isn’t even worth it because of what you experience the next day.

That sounds blasphemous, but it’s true.

I spent most of the week by a pool or an ocean or a tiki bar, always with a drink or two in hand and, almost a week later, I’m still trying to get back to zero. It’s not just the drinking, but also baking in the Sun, walking the boardwalk, watching kids (five in total between my brother, sister, and myself), and all of the emotions that accompany a long overdue family vacation.

I need a nap.

Here’s what I wrote this week:

“None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm.”
– Henry David Thoreau
