Alvin Is a Dick and the “ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks” Reboot Sucks

alvin-101-alt-16x9

Last year, Nick Jr. premiered the reboot of Alvin and the Chipmunks and, let’s be honest, it sucks.

This is disappointing because it is currently my kid’s favorite show. While she still prefers princesses like Rapunzel and Sofia for toys and dressing up and still appreciates Pixar and Peppa Pig, she asks to watch Alvin nearly every single day.

It’s a phase, but one we hope she grows out of sooner rather than later.

Some of our distaste may be because people hate almost any update of a beloved element from their childhood. Part of it may also be that as you get older, listening to high-pitched dialogue becomes excruciating. Mostly, though, it’s because it just plain sucks.

Reboots are nothing new for Alvin and his crew.

The chipmunks first arrived in 1958 with their song, “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late).” The song was credited to David Seville and the Chipmunks and was a major hit, spending four months atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart, selling four million copies in less than two months, and winning three Grammy Awards.

That led to sixty years of TV shows and movies starring the chipmunks beginning with The Alvin Show, which ran on CBS about a year from 1961 to 1962. The song and the show were created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who went by the stage name of David Seville – the same name as the character of the chipmunks’ adoptive father. The Alvin and the Chipmunks series, which was very popular and ran on NBC from 1983 to 1990, was created by Bagdasarian’s son and daughter-in-law, Janice Karman.

The current iteration of the show  was also created by Janice Karman, so there is a thread from that show to this one, but the heart of that show is not present in the updated version. Perhaps that is due to the CG animation. Hand-drawn animation has a warmth inherent to it that just doesn’t translate through computer graphics, but CG is far cheaper and has become the standard method of animating.

In addition to the animation, another financial decision concerns the music in the show. Originally, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore were popular musicians (based on the success of “The Chipmunk Song”), with David as their songwriter and manager, and often performed a cover version of a popular song. Now, their musical endeavors are referenced only sporadically – David has his own career apart from the chipmunks – and, because getting the rights to songs is horribly expensive, they now perform original songs, most of which are in the EDM realm. They sound like they have Skrillex in their group.

The actual title of the new show is ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks and that’s fitting for two reasons. First, it’s ridiculous and annoying, like the show itself. Secondly, the show is 90% Alvin with all of the other characters serving as little more than secondary support. It’s like the chipmunk version of I Am Legend or Cast Away where one character is in virtually every scene, only Alvin didn’t survive a pandemic or get stranded on a deserted island.

Theodore, especially, gets short shrift. While Simon is often included in various schemes as the rational one trying to talk some sense in Alvin, who bounces around like he just ingested a speedball, Theodore is often there in little more than a glorified cameo. He’s basically furniture in most episodes. Moreover, when he does get to speak, he’s a moron, failing to understand the most basic of concepts. Alvin is depicted as an evil mastermind and Simon is clearly a child prodigy, but their brother, who used to be innocent and naive, now comes across as a simpleton.

alvin-113b-clip-4x3

But the biggest problem with the show is Alvin. In short, he’s a selfish prick. My issues with Caillou are numerous, but the biggest is that he whines until he gets what he wants, thus never learning anything. Alvin acts the same way. Criticize Saved By the Bell or California Dreams all you want, but at least the vapidity of those characters was grounded when they learned a lesson. Even in previous iterations of this show, Alvin was a bit mischievous but generally harmless. Now, he goes out of his way to ruin the lives of his family and friends if things aren’t to his liking. Alvin will do something sinister, get caught, and then bitch about the fact that he got caught doing something wrong. Furthermore, he has no qualms about hurting those close to him because his pride or ego has been hurt, such as when he ran for class president simply to prevent his brother from winning. What a dick.

When the titular character of a show is unlikable, the show itself will not work.

ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks is a hugely successful show, but if the 2016 presidential race has proven anything, it’s that the general public is not always the best judge.

Other open questions about this shitty show:

  • Why do Alvin, Simon and Theodore have to live with Dave, but the Chipettes – Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor – get to live in their own treemansion in the yard without any caretaker or chaperone?
  • Why are the chipmunks far smaller than their classmates? Instead of being similar in size – though not species – to their peers as they had been in the past, they are now about one-sixth their size, hopping on shoulders and scampering around. This makes sense in reality – chipmunks are tiny – but not in their day-to-day life among regular-sized humans.
  • And why don’t they need to be in car seats? Children have to be in car seats until they go to college, but these tiny individuals can sit in the backseat with just a lap belt?!

Some of these problems – and more (like the hole in Alvin’s shirt) – were already addressed on TheRobotsVoice.com while some corrections have been made based on feedback from Chipmunk fanatics.

The fact that Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. and Janice Karman have creative control over the new show is very evident, as it really captures the spirit of the previous cartoon series from the 80s, unlike those horrid live action/CGI movies where Twentieth Century Fox had way too much corporate influence and resulted in celebrity actors doing the voices, poorly-cast actors in the live rolls, and messing with the characters personalities.

You’re right about them not doing cover songs anymore, but this is what’s preventing full season sets of the 80s cartoon from being released on DVD, and in fact, a number of episodes from that show that HAVE been released on DVD had to have song replacements because of it.

One other thing I will agree with you on is how Theodore is basically just there and serves hardly any real purpose on the show. Each of the characters have certainly grown and developed since the 80s (Eleanor in particular now has a youthful sass that has breathed so much more life into who was an otherwise kind of bland and static character), but Theodore has clearly suffered Flanderization – his innocence, naivety, and babyish tendancies have been cranked up to eleven it’s not even funny.

As for the Chipettes, if you remember the 80s cartoon, they originally lived on their own in a similar “treemansion” in the first few seasons before school officials found out and threatened to send them away to orphanages until Alvin convinced Miss Miller to adopt them.

I do agree that the constant rehashing of older franchises has become tiresome, trite, and condusive to moans, groans, and eyerolls, but as I said, with the Bagdasarian clan in complete control of the new show, I find that ALVINNN is a pleasant exception to the rule (though I could do without the occasion of fart humor – the Chipmunks have always been above that level of humor). I can see the argument you make though, as I’ve noticed a lot of people have had the same complaints about the new show as you, including the size and design of the characters, the CGI animation, the manner in which Alvin himself is portrayed, etc.

You’re wrong. You guys just hate them since you’re not true fans of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Brittany, Jeanette, Eleanor, and Dave were Ross Bagdasarian Sr’s creations. Just because we’re fans doesn’t mean we’re entitled to have Alvin and the Chipmunks movies and TV Shows the way we want them to be made. We didn’t create those little rodent singers. Ross Bagdasarian did. He created them after he created the song Witch Doctor and experimented with sped up recordings after talking/singing at half speed. After the success of Witch Doctor, Bagdasarian was asked by Liberty Records to create another successful novelty record and that’s what inspired to create the Chipmunks and as an inside joke, he named them after executives at Liberty Records. Alvin is named after Al Bennett, Simon is named after Si Waronker, and Theodore is named after Ted Keep. The new novelty record was a huge success, selling over 4 million copies in just 7 weeks and it launched the career of the Chipmunks. Then in 1959, Alvin and the Chipmunks were described in comic book form and were depicted as somewhat realistic, nearly identical anthropomorphic rodents with almond-shaped eyes. Herb Klynn’s Format Films made a deal to develop the Three Chipmunks for animation, the old designs were rejected and new versions of the characters were created. Afterwards, in 1961, the chipmunks were shown in the TV series known as The Alvin Show. And eventually in 1972, Ross Bagdasarian passed away and the creation of Alvin and the Chipmunks laid dormant for 7 years until NBC showed interest in the original show and afterwards, the show and creation of Alvin and the Chipmunks was left in charge of his son, Ross Bagdasarian Jr and his wife, Janice Karman, whom he married in 1980. And they’ve done a lot for the fans over the past 5 decades. And plus, they never said anything negative towards the haters of the characters. And for 50 years, Ross Bagdasarian Jr and Janice Karman have devoted their entire life to Alvin and the Chipmunks and have been loyal to the characters and the cast and crew who have helped them along the way. Even if you didn’t like what the live action movies did, you can’t deny that Ross Bagdasarian Jr and Janice Karman were definitely trying to do something with it. One that doesn’t respect a couple who’s always stayed devoted to, experimented with, and passionate towards their life’s work. I just wish you guys could care about that a little more. Lastly, please note that this criticism is directed towards the haters and people who are not fans of the creation, not the cast and crew, who obviously cared about the projects they were creating and who did a fantastic job. That’s about all I have to say about this. Sorry it took so long, but like I said, It wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t address it. And with that out of the way, I need you guys to respect the cast and crew devoting their life to 6 little singing chipmunks and their songwriting human father. And with that, I’m done talking about my respect to The Chipmunks. Please respect my criticism and please don’t hate on Ross Bagdasarian Jr, Janice Karman, and their two children, Vanessa and Michael. Peace out!

Finally! Someone who hates Alvin for troublesome ways and Theodore for his ignorance. As far as I’m concerned, perfect folks are for me and flawed aren’t.

I can’t stand Theodore he is world’s biggest spoiled brat Just watching him is annoying and he is pretty much useless He get this annoying grin on his face when Alvin takes the rap for almost everything he dose, He is old enough to know better, He is never held responsible for anything and he just laughs when he gets away with it so he knows he is getting away with it I thought he is cute at first but as it went on it became so annoying

haters be writing huge essays about how much they are hating on their daughters favorite show. THERE IS A REASON ITS HER FAVORITE SHOW. it’s funny. It’s popular and has gives a lot of lessons. Btw you obviously only watch two seconds of the show because there are episodes Alvin isn’t featured in at all or very little. And even though he is in a lot of him in the show WHAT ELSE DO U EXPECT?

This is basically you: oh look here I find a show called “ALVINNN! and the chipmunks” hmmm…. I wonder why Alvin is in so much of the show? Let me go and check THE TITLE. look it says ALVIN and the chipmunks! Not BRITTANY or SIMON or THEODORE and the chipmunks, WHAT A COINCIDENCE.

Now time to answer those shitty QUESTIONS at the end of your haters essay:

IDIOT : Why do Alvin, Simon and Theodore have to live with Dave, but the Chipettes – Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor – get to live in their own treemansion in the yard without any caretaker or chaperone?

SOMEONE WITH A BRAIN IN THEIR HEAD : the chipettes DO live with Dave you jackass. Just because they don’t live in the same house, they still live on the same PROPERTY and who do you think gives them all the stuff in their house? DAVE.

IDIOT : Why are the chipmunks far smaller than their classmates? Instead of being similar in size – though not species – to their peers as they had been in the past, they are now about one-sixth their size, hopping on shoulders and scampering around. This makes sense in reality – chipmunks are tiny – but not in their day-to-day life among regular-sized humans.

SOMEONE WITH A BRAIN IN THEIR HEAD : have you never heard of a show? U cannot be so much of an ass to ask stupid questions like that. ITS A SHOW.
NOT REAL
ENTERTAINMENT
F.A.K.E.
so idiotic.

IDIOT : And why don’t they need to be in car seats? Children have to be in car seats until they go to college, but these tiny individuals can sit in the backseat with just a lap belt?!

SOMEONE WITH A BRAIN IN THEIR HEAD : the chipmunks aren’t CHILDREN if you paid attention to the show you would know they are high school TEENS. Btw children need to be in car seats until they are 8 years old. Not until they are in COLLEGE. U ARE SUCH A JACKASS IDIOT HATER

IT IS TRUE ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS IS THE WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN I FOUND THIS ON WIKIPEDIA In 2011, Entertainment Weekly ranked Alvin and the Chipmunks the third worst live-action/animation hybrid film of all-time. In terms of lists regarding the worst talking animal films of all time, both Complex and Screen Rant named it eleventh worst.

Lies! The real worst movie ever is The Emoji Movie! Alvin and the Chipmunks were Ross Bagdasarian Sr’s creations. Even after his passing in 1972, 7 years after his death in 1979, his son, Ross Jr and his girlfriend Janice Karman, whom they got married a year later, kept them going for the past 50 years. You gotta respect them for their life’s work.

I agree about Theodore He is very annoying They wrote this one where he takes over Alvin’s babysitting job and you think ok ,maybe he will grow_up nope ,he looks like he has a
play date with a kid his own age and the kid looks like 4 the end result was that him and the kid make a mess that later Alvin and the kid’s older brother had to clean up and of course Thedore is laughing about the fact this brother Alvin has to clean up after him as a viewer you don’t think it’s funny anymore and you want ask the bigger question Theodore if you took on the babysitting job ,why can’t you clean up after yourself and the kid your watching There are 5 year olds that can clean up after themselves and you still can’t do this no ,I don’t think it’s funny at your age that your brother still picks up after you once you took over the responsibility it became your job The girls are ok sometimes, but it’s weird they way they live without parents I am not against he boys having their own Treehouse but dragging the girls over into the yard to give this thing to them in front of the girls and sending the boys who are the same age as the girls over to play with it in front of the girls doesn’t do it for me How do they think it must feel to be the kid in the yard that isn’t allowed to play on it ,especially when the other kids playing with it are your age once again you hear that it has something to do with the fact that someone complained that Thedore won’t give up his teddy bear so they slammed the girls side by telling them they had to give up playing in the backyard, but if they were a boy who is the same age they are welcome to play there as long and as much as they want to really thanks for the stereotype ,but if I want to go play in someone’s backyard I will play there and not worry about what you think is being the wrong gender to do it I stopped watching it Alvin and Jeanette and Simon are ok characters but I can’t stand Theodore’s character anymore it’s just that bad

Like

Yes ,please let the girls live like normal kids their age give them a parent of their own,so you can stop writing these oddly weird things I am sure if the roles were the other way around the boys won’t be so thrilled if they had to give this to the girls and watch them play on it with it in front of them It’s really strange what they are trying to write It’s not really all that fair to the girls side to explain it that way

Like

Yes, it’s like they want you to believe that Dave told the girls about it or something ,but clearly the girls found out another way because Dave doesn’t say two words to the girls the entire time they are there He appears to be more interested in making sure his sons are happy that he can’t even be brothered to say hello to the girls nor to care if it might upset the girls that he is sending his sons over to play on it with them in the yard than Brittany adds this really stupid comment that now that the boys are playing they are disturbing the peace They are your age really strange plus what if one of the girls wanted to go play on it too would they have a problem if she asked? or is it somehow against the rules because this is only for the boys If the girls don’t ask does this really avoid the bigger question ,not to mention the way Dave is kind of shoving off the girls he could care less that they are there, let alone if they have the same interest in playing on it or not He looks like he would be much happier if they were not there at all It makes you scream inside your mind ,please get the girls a family of their own and stop writing this because your making the boys side look good and the girls side look bad

I agree with the reviewer about Eleanor This character is sort of odd I remember one time Brittany was sick she and Jeanette were taking care of her Eleanor was growing tried if it so Alvin told her to act like she was sick to see if Brittany would take care of her although Brittany did for short time it all ends where it started from Brittany is sick again along with Alvin leaving Jeanette and Eleanor to take care of them Maybe the most annoying part is Eleanor feels some need to apologize to Brittany for pretending to be sick when she wasn’t They appear to be putting the heavy onto Eleanor acting as though she is the one who needs to learn a lesson not Brittany Eleanor now goes on to describes her behavior as childish The viewers hate to break to you Eleanor but your sister needs to get it she is older than you it’s her job to be the big sister that she clearly doesn’t want to be yet it appears Brittany will jump up and help with Theodore which is odd since she doesn’t want to do this for her own sister not to mention the girls younger sister appears to be pushed to grow_up pretty fast yet all the other kid characters aside from Simon who is the oldest remain a bit immature plus most people like her best when she is skate boarding doing that paint thing or a make over that kind of stuff but when she displays this behavior the character is less liked The show isn’t totally horrible at times but the character’s often never learn from their mistakes and are repeating the same behavior they were displaying at the beginning again at the end of an episode

I guess they are trying to say that because Dave let’s the girls live alone in the Treehouse he let’s his sons who are the same age play in his backyard, but doesn’t let the girls again this is the personal opinion of the writers that a girl this age has  too high of a maturity level to want to play in the backyard but if she was a boy it’s  no problem at this age so they needed the girls there to prove their point We all know this has to do with the  individual child not the child’s gender, but they appear to think differently on the subject  Nobody is saying the boys shouldn’t have a Treehouse like girls ,but showing the boys playing with it in front of the girls like that is pushing it too much and makes the girl’s side want to go cut down the tree again this kind of thing could all be avoided if they just get it the girls aren’t old enough to live alone than you could give it to the boys without having to describe it this way They write this other one where Dave walks off on the girls during a father/daughter dance and the boys prove they are better than he his by sticking around and making sure the girls are ok Eleanor moves in with Dave and the boys getting turned into a maid She isn’t old enough to be your maid Dave I was never totally impressed with the girls side of it and the boys little brother is just really bad I remember one time the Chipette’s came running into the yard just because he screamed This is just how awful they have gotten with his characther

Yes Eleanor’s can be too much at times like when she has to call Miss Miller to watch the boys They show her talking on the phone to boys telling them to have fun with Miss Miller the weirdest part about is she is supposed to be younger than both Alvin and Simon yet she is speaking to them as if she was a grown up and they are children She can sometimes come off more like an adult not like a kid her age, I understand the need for strong female i really do ,but she can almost be too much at times i have evan seen people who refer to her as Brittany’s mother because she acts more like mom toward her than Brittany ever acts like her big sister and unlike the boys who constantly remind us that they have a younger brother we have never heard neither Jeanette nor Brittany acknowlege Eleanor as their little sister I am not saying the movies got her totally right but they made the characther fit a little better to role of the younger sister espically when Brittany defends her in the movie where they are on the boat It’s something we have never seen before in the 80’s or the newer cartoon

I believe lthat was the ending  to Independence Day it was horrible ,I guess they have no real reason to explain why the girls get to live alone without parents so they tried to make the girls  give something to the boys that they get to play with in front of the girls as a way of setting an  imagine in your mind that the girls help with the other children by trying to turn Dave’s Teenage sons into the other children they are helping with after all ,if you want to come home and play with your friends you won’t want to help take care of your friends  The memorial of the story is that if you want to live in the Treehouse you can’t come home from school and play with your friends anymore , you have to come home from school and watch your friends playing in front of you right after the boys explained  that not being able play there made them feel like they were being punished some felt it was really harsh toward the girls end especially when the other kids playing there are the girls age some felt the girls were being gender stereotyped others felt the boys should have shown some respect for the girls by either offering to allow them to play there too or not playing with it while the girls were there Some felt just giving the boys a Treehouse of their was enough and they should have ended it there instead of pointing out what was different  about them They want to spell it out in big letters that the Treehouse is for the other children that you have to help Dave take care of to play in The biggest problem these aren’t babies or young children there kids the girls age who are a different gender

I mean how many story lines can you write of the girls helping take care of their Teenage boyfriends before you run out of lines If all they were going to do was show is the girls helping with the boys some girl viewers  were no longer intetested If your  on the girls side of it you feel the pressure on you to hurry up and grow_up but if your on the boys side of things its just the opposite take all the time in the world to grow_up Again the entire thing is tiggered by someone complaining that Theodore won’t grow_up a little bit by giving up his teddy bear

The old theory that men are like children that never grow_up The joke is again not very funny and girl viewers were less than thrilled it began hitting the shows ratings after it aired some of  their  female viewers didn’t enjoy the humor most of the episodes based around the girls dropped to the lowest numbers since the newer version started airing guess it came back to hit them the wrong way They tried to chance things after getting blacklashed over the episodes ending but it had already done the damage One of there most popular episodes with the girls was when they broke into the school to change the tally numbers on the votes for the cutest Chipmunk people loved it and commented how they liked watching the girls sneaking around like the boys but the writers went away from this and never show it again despite viewers expressing their interest I heard some girl veiwers getting excited about the Super Girls episode but said they were disappointed after because they thought the outfits the girls made were cute but why make them if you are never going use them They were also disappointed that Jeanette couldn’t finish the Super Boots herself they thought it was cute that Simon wanted to help her but felt she could have been given a clue about what she was doing wrong and figured  out her own way to fix them

Chatbratter,I don’t believe kids should have to take responsibility for siblings so if Brittany doesn’t want to help out with Eleanor that’s fine, but at the same time I can see the point being made Brittany has chosen to not help out with her younger sibling which is fine This is her decision to make ,but at the same time she then turns around expecting her younger sibling to help out with her Brittany often comes off as very selfish She thinks the world resolves around her The amount of responsibility placed onto Eleanor has caused the character to mature much faster than her sisters Simon the oldest character is the only other one who has been pushed to mature as fast as Eleanor Both characters carry on the burden of lot of responsibility On the girls side everything appears to be backwards and the girls are often act jealous of one another Brittany doesn’t care as long it comes off in her favor and Eleanor often gets stuck with more than her share of responsibility I think they think Theodore is their bread and butter character He is probably were ratings hit high so they keep overdoing the character I think it’s only matter of time before fans get tried of the same old same old with him and the show gets the boot

I remember after that aired the mans wife snapped at girl viewer saying they were to emotional or insensitive or something like that Unfortunately the way the situation is being described, it looked more like a pinching game because we are letting the girls do this and not the boys we will now let the boys do this and not the let the girls Unfortunately what was going on with the boys side is overshadowing what’s was going on with the girls end They can now answer the boys question Why do the girls live in the next yard without parents because they have to help take care of you unfortunately once again the girls side gets the bad answer why do you have to give up playing after school to help Dave with the boys because we had to do this to make the men happy not really a great answer If it wasn’t for Simon taking two seconds out of his busy play schedule to make a comment to girls we would still be scratching our heads trying to figure out what Brittany is rattling on about or why the girls are there Dave sure wasn’t going to help us understand that end of things He was excited to give this to the boys and even indicates without saying it directly go over and enjoy yourself I could care less that these girls are here let alone are similar in age to you just ignore them I am just go have a good time Dave is now standing right next to the girls but still not a sound from him His boys are now playing but still has zero communication with the girls He could have took that moment to give them some attention but still nothing The big deal being made over what the boys got is making what the girl’s did feel overlooked They have now been pushed to the side and pretty much forgotten Why would we want to follow the actions of the girls when if we follow the actions of the boys we can just get into a huge fight with Dave witch ends with us getting what we want along with playing with it If we follow the actions of the girls it cause more work and causes us to get pushed aside , plus anything they got in return now no longer feels important I felt it would have gone much better without the girls I am sure Dave or the boys wouldn’t care, they hardly noticed if they were there or not I mean the boys got what they wanted so what’s the point of parading the girls into the yard so they enjoy the birds eye view of them playing there when they surely can’t It felt more like the only reason they were there was to prove to the boys they could play with that thing and the girls couldn’t now poor Simon has to take the time to say something to them because he knew his dad wasn’t going to I keep wondering why Miss Miller Is still around but the girls no longer live with her? It would be better than watching this Once in a while Dave dose pay attention to them but not normally Why are they just left alone living like that ? It’s very unusual They could have also used this situation as a teaching tool if you want what the girls have there are things you can do to earn it instead of attacking the girls making them stand in the yard while his boys enjoy doing this when the girls clearly can’t adding to it that anything the girls got for doing it now no longer feels so good I feel sorry for the girls Their lives are pretty messed up and nobody really wants to keep them Dave sometimes comes off as bugged by them I mean 6 kids is lot for one person to handle maybe splitting the responsibility with Miss Miller or another adult is the best answer Dave dose have his moments with them but I think it’s just to much for him and the girls really aren’t his to begin with The big issue here Is what do you with the girls now? What happened here really isn’t the answer They need an adult to look after them like the boys have They need to not be left alone all the time

They are getting older and should able to start doing more for themselves They appear to be under pressure to make a child to grow_up and are using pushing the responsibility of caring for other children onto to the girls to force that to happen because nobody would dare make poor little Theodore part with his teddy bear but making the girls give up their free time after school to care for other kids as a way to force them to grow_up faster doesn’t bug the writers Remember when Alvin had that smelly pile of clothes on the floor and Dave picked it up and washed them for him Learning to wash your own clothes is a life skill and there are 3 of them and only one Dave Teach your son how to wash his own clothes He is old enough to learn They expect the girls to do it and we saw Simon one time with a Landry basket clearly washing his clothes so why do you allow Alvin to get away with this In Sister Act the boys moved into the girls treehouse for a couple of days in attempt to get Brittany to make her sisters come back home They were doing just fine without Dave hovering over them now suddenly they would go hungry or fight if Dave let them live alone in the backyard Where do girls your son’s get money to buy food from ? They aren’t old enough to make that kind of money He never cares if the girls go hungry We have saw this before in Baby Whisper Alvin meets a girl who is taking care of her baby brothers The girl carried on about loving babies and not minding giving up her time after school to care for them Alvin made a comment to Simon that he thought the babies belonged to the girl His male friend was the girls cousin He started going on about them staying with them and how much he hated taking care of the babies The girl has to go as far as hiring Alvin to babysit for her so she can take a break and go see a movie Alvin runs off to meet the girl leaving her brothers alone at his house with Simon and Theodore while trying to convince the girl that Theodore is actually his baby brother by dressing him up like a baby to make her think he likes babies the way she does You never see the twin babies parents and it’s coming across as the only ones caring for them as these teenagers Why don’t they take the babies home and let their parents care for them since the teenagers have been doing it the entire time This show dose this a lot the adults don’t really take their responsibilities seriously and they are pushed off on kids Remember when Alvin had to take care of Brittany when she got that thing on her eye Why didn’t the principal or the teacher take her home and take care her Alvin did prove to be more responsible than we expected him to be but still none of the adults wanted to step up and take care of her Not fair to Alvin it’s not his responsibility once again like always the adults fail the girls side nobody wants to take real responsibility for them They don’t want them In one of the later episodes Alvin make a joke about referring to the girls as loyal dogs Really? You wanted us to laugh that you just referred to females as loyal dogs It says it loud and clear their true feelings about females and why their ratings among females viewers have tanked

Not surprised Janice was having trouble with the girls side of things She grew_up as only child I am sure the world reloved around her Ross had an older sister back in the 50’s when girls had to help their mothers with siblings and their first born was a girl While her and Ross were gone for long periods of time working on the show I am sure their daughter had to take over the parenting role to her brother With the way Janice is she probably got used to pushing off large amounts of responsibility onto her daughter She comes off as very selfish and the do things my way attitude I am sure it caused clashing between her and the girl viewers

Theodore is annoying and very spoiled I can’t stand him anymore, They take every chance they get to remind everyone that he is youngest and he is always the center of the attention The girls are alright at times but it’s weird the way they live in neighbors yard without parents What happened to them living with Miss Miller ?Didn’t she adopt them? Why would she just give them up like that? They feel more like side characters in this one than in the 80’s cartoon where they felt more like equals to the boys Now they just kind of bring kind of bring them in for two second lines and you see more of the boys friends or teachers than we see of the girls once in a great moon they get to be main characters in an episode but it’s very rare How about more of the girls and less of Theodore Please give the girls a parent while you’re at it and show them being boyfriend/girlfriend again like we always remember from the past They don’t live in Dave’s yard ,they live in the neighbor’s abandoned yard and he rarely pays any attention to them and we have evan seen the girl’s principal and teacher attempting to care for the girls before Dave so no he doesn’t take care of them the way he does it his sons it’s really weird to show them living alone at this age if you don’t want to give them to Miss Miller please give them to someone else already

It’s kind of obvious to most that Dave was never actually a girl’s dad He had three boys He isn’t really used to have girls around maybe Sister Act should have given us a clue Eleanor moves in and Dave is happy and content to have females around as long his house is clean and Alvin has his homework done but when they girls wanted to play make_over with him they had to tie him up with their bows Dave didn’t like it so calls for Alvin to get them to leave

It’s not totally shocking the girls were told they can’t play after school and the boys the can because they have to help Dave care for the male version of themselves After all according to these writers child care is women’s work You have female around to clean your house to take care of you’re children ect. Just watching this make you angry and frustrated If the goal was to include the girls it’s making you feel like you were dragged into the yard to be the kid that was left out of being able to play on it The boys could care less that the girls are in they yard or their age their attitude was we can play with it and you can’t finding out the girls can’t play after school the way the boys can makes the boys happy after all you did your duty as females you made men happy Brittany makes some indication that the girls haven’t seen Dave or the boys in two weeks yet Dave won’t even the house more than a few minutes without calling his sons a babysitter but it’s ok to leave 3 girls the same age as you’re boys living alone without an adult around for weeks maybe months at time That’s just kind of crazy

We are unsure how the girls support themselves Brittany has job at the school as a secretary but clearly that can’t make enough to pay all their bills and they aren’t really old enough to be holding down jobs that could cover these kind of expenses In season one Dave was ready to move his sons across town one of the reasons was because the girls were always over at his house bugging him and the boys so clearly he could care less about leaving without them and we have never heard him say he covers their bills maybe they still have money saved from when their music career was doing better because clearly neither them or the Chipmunks make much money off it now Dave even disappeared into the bathroom during one of those daddy/daughter dance things and didn’t come back maybe one of the bright spots was the boys came over to make sure the girls weren’t hurt by their dad taking off on them like that The girls are clearly used to him brushing them because they just go over and join a another girl and her dad You would it hurt them just a little that he would do that to them but they just kind of move past it off clearly showing their they learned not to depend on him for anything Dave never apologized to them or showed any indication that much care that he did this to them either

It’s hard to talks about Theodore He is just down right irritating He acted older back in the 80’s when they supposed to be only like 8 years old or something He must have aged backward and if he suddenly he disappeared from the show I am sure some of us would never miss As for Alvin I feel like Dave is really hard on him He is just a typically boy who sometimes gets in trouble I don’t find his character that bad

Those boys appear to be incapable of taking care of themselves They can’t live alone like their girlfriends or so they say but when the boys are alone they seem very capable of caring for themselves Why would they have any reason to grow_up or ever move out ?They can just play all day while Dave and the girls take care of them They found out quickly why you don’t write screens this way and why when it really comes down to it these girls need to be living in a regular home with a guardian not alone like adult college students which they are not old enough to be yet This is one big happy family as long as the kids know what side of the yard they belong on and understand what their gender specific roles are in the home Dave can carry on reasonable conversations with the Chipmunks and even sometimes the Chipettes so the entire situation where he abandons the girls during a school dance is ridiculous He ran away from the problem instead of dealing with it and could have really hurt the girls feelings in the process or even caused them to hate him Why do you want to make the character come across this way ? They had a golden opportunity here yet they failed to use it properly The youngest boy is probably the worst character on the entire show He is down right spoiled rotten He knows it to and takes advantage of it ever chance he gets He walks around with that grin on his face He told people once that Dave lets him do whatever he wants The girls go running to Dave if anybody picks on poor Theodore and Simon is like his overprotective body guard Dave clearly favors him over his two brothers You would think Simon and Alvin would be angry at him and Dave about this and be kind of embarrassed by it Alvin is clearly hyperactive He has good heart on him but can be very rambunctious at times There are times when the some the episodes are better than others

Some people think the birth of daughter means they have someone around to help them raise the other childrenThey are so worried that one day she will be mother and not know how that they force her to be one as child The problem is in some cases the constant pushing from the adult that the kid can’t have a childhood of their own because they have to learn how to do this now can cause the child to snap sometimes to the point where when they grow_up and are at age where they should be having children They don’t want kids of their own because they were pushed to grow_up so fast as a child The days of us handing our daughter over to the neighbors forcing them to help them raise their children like they are neighbor’s employees ended a long time ago It isn’t the fault of the children you already have that you kept having more children or that the neighbors did nor is it their job to take care of them for you It wasn’t their actions that caused the other children to be placed on this earth I am sure most kids will naturally how to be a parent one day when they become one so the pushing and shoving from an adult that you shouldn’t be a kid first and a parent later causes the child to start being very angry at their parents Unfortunately for the writers this pushed girl viewers to their breaking point which caused them to snap but because they don’t have to live in the situation they could simply change the station than ever watch it agin People need to be careful what they asking kids to do for other kids cause as much they may think they are doing the right thing they can end up doing more harm than good Maybe you daughter would rather work a career while her husband stays home and cares for the kids I think the writers logic could be bit old fashion and turning off the viewers Whatever reason you had to just write this way it’s not making us wanna help you this It’s making us incredibly angry that we can’t we ca’t play on it

I remember in movie four they were ready to dump the girl characters stating they were taking away to much of the boys screen time maybe this was a cost issue some viewers started to complain they wouldn’t watch the movie without the girls characters so they added them into small roles at the beginning and end of the movie clearly they believed the movie could survive without them The movie tanked at the box office I am sure the lack of female characters wasn’t the main reason as after four movies I am sure people had grown tried of watching singing Chipmunks and this now strange humane boy who was the son of the woman Dave was dating and we have to remember that Dave and the boys were there long before the girls were ever created so typically this is there show but I think it proves the girls have become an important factor to the shows existence

Actually the movies with girls were lower ranked than the ones without them not sure why expect maybe the story lines weren’t so great the last movie didn’t do as good as the first but did better than the other two It got mixed reviews but yes there were people claiming they refused to watch the movie without the girls maybe a better choice would have been to bring back Miss Miller taking the girls back and included one of them to more in the main part of the movie like Brittany

The first and last movie actually did better than the other two maybe it was the story lines, but yes some people did get upset when they said they weren’t going to include the girls in the last movie I think a better decision would have been to show Miss Miller taking them back and maybe included one of the girls into the main part of the movie like Brittany
